Introducing Australian singer/songwriter TONES AND I (Toni Watson) whose amazing voice I first heard about 8 months ago when I came across her cover of Chet Faker's (now Nick Murphy) "Drop The Game". I knew I just came across a talent that would be huge and months later, she has already blown people's minds and now even more so with the long-awaited release of her stellar debut single "Johnny Run Away" via TripleJUnearthed where it quickly hit #1 on TripleJ. The track that I've been obsessed with this past week is a melodic piece of electro-pop magic which highlights the singers unique vocals and was recorded with Konstantin Kersting (The Belligerents, Mallrat, The Jungle Giants, Tia Gostelow). Speaking on the track she says:
"Johnny is about my best friend who was telling me the story of how he came out at a young age to
a disapproving father. It’s his story, I wanted to relay to people that we spend so much time judging strangers
for their own decisions that we forget that they are going through judgement and rejection within
their own family, let alone the public."
With a debut like this, she has definitely solidified her place as one to watch and I can't wait to hear what she has in store for us. The track with be available on all streaming services March 1st but in the meantime, you can check out the video which just premiered below:
